REAL GOLF CLUB OYAMBRE 1924 No website available Oyambre Northern Spain Type of course Links 9 holes   Course distance Yellow 1507 m Red 1276 m Green   818 m Holes 0 x par 5 3 x par 4 6 x par 3 Date Played 18/09/19     Claim to fame: My first ever fully fledged links course   With a name like Real Golf Club Oyambre 1924 one has visions of playing on a top course as the word Real conjures up the great Spanish football teams. Consider Real Madrid, Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Real by the way stands for Royal, therefore a Royal golf course would be nice. Golf club Oyambre however is far from royal but that’s not to say it is un-majestic.   This little beauty is set in Cantabria with the Bay of Biscay on one side and the Oyambre Nature Reserve on the other. It is a genuine links course containing only nine sma...

GOLF INTERNATIONAL d’ARCACHON https://www.golfarcachon.org/fr/ Arcachon France Type of course Woodland 18 holes   Course distance White 5760   m Yellow 5523 m Red 4670 m Holes   5 x par 5   8 x par 4   5 x par 3 PLAYED 14/09/19     Claim to fame: Arcachon is known for its Arcachonnaise villas, which have a distinctive architectural style   Before opting to play this course, I checked it out online with the limited broadband connection the local campsite had to offer. The first internet page you come across is the one outlining the strict dress code. This is reminiscent of Driffield and I had visions of a very elite class playing golf at THEIR leisure, in THEIR club and no intruders would be welcome. The electric fences that ran the length of the course did not dissuade me of this thought either. P...

Situated off the west coast of France near La Rochelle, the island at its highest point is 66 feet and is a haven for cyclists. It is renowned for its salt marshes and sea food, in particular oysters. The sellers will clean, shuck and serve them as you wait. Apparently, once a shell has been opened you see a succulent piece of creamy/light grey flesh that is surrounded by a clear juice. It i...

OMAHA BEACH GOLF RESORT (LEST WE FORGET)

OMAHA BEACH GOLF RESORT https://www.omahabeachgolfclub.com/ Normandy France Type of course Woodland 18 holes   Course distance White 5992 m Yellow 5599 m Red 4773 m Holes   4 x par 5   10 x par 4   4 x par 3         Claim to fame: Has hosted a number of French Senior Tour matches throughout the last 20 years. I find it somewhat bizarre that a golf course names itself after the code name for a D Day landing beach that saw the death of over 2000 American soldiers on the 6th June 1944. In some respect the course does attempt to pay homage to the people who ensured our freedom by naming each hole after a famous general or brigadier and having a large billboard outlining who they were and what they did during the war effort. It is difficult to conceive how horrendous the battle must have been for the land tha...
