A quick search of the Internet however divulges more about what went on underneath the course rather than on it. Golfers on the greens of Low Laithes are probably oblivious to the old mine workings that exist hundreds of feet below. AWAY DAYS

Having spent part of autumn, spring and all of winter trudging through the peat bogs of Cottingham and Skidby, it came as a nice relief to play Elsham GC in the first of many a summer away day. Organisation courtesy of the Metronome. As the Big Easy was heard to say,   “I like my away days” and don’t we all, regardless of outcome. With the Judge in Portugal, golfing with his imaginary friends from Halifax, eight intrepid explorers set out south of the Humber. Second turn after the bridge and we arrive at Elsham. “A proper golf club” in the eyes of many but mainly the Doc’. Today’s competition was an open age better ball 2 from 4 to count. Arriving bright and early prevented us rushing round at tee time and ensured a hearty bacon sandwich could be consumed in the ‘proper’ clubhouse. ‘Proper’ bacon that is,   the thickness of a pig‘s hind leg.
