It's about the people, the place and a little bit about the game. As a newly qualified relatively young retiree it was essential that I took up a sport that would ensure my active life didn’t deteriorate. Having been given six golf lessons as part of my leaving present from work and having watched golf sporadically on TV I considered that nothing could be easier than to hit a little ball with a stick and put it in a hole within the least number of goes. In deed I considered I would be up there with the best within a matter of months. How wrong I was! Suffice to say that after one year of membership at my local course I am still a high handicapper who at the end of every game muses over where it went wrong and how the next time I visit, I should be able to knock ten shots off my score, only to be bitterly disappointed every time.
