The Wormburner
It's about the people, the place and a little bit about the game.
As a newly qualified relatively young retiree it was essential that I took up a sport that would ensure my active life didn’t deteriorate. Having been given six golf lessons as part of my leaving present from work and having watched golf sporadically on TV I considered that
nothing could be easier than to hit a little ball with a stick and put it in a
hole within the least number of goes. In deed I considered I would be up there
with the best within a matter of months. How wrong I was! Suffice to say that
after one year of membership at my local course I am still a high handicapper
who at the end of every game muses over where it went wrong and how the next
time I visit, I should be able to knock ten shots off my score, only to be
bitterly disappointed every time. I now understand how Bill Murray felt in
Groundhog Day.
This Blog therefore
is dedicated to all those people who wish they had taken up the game earlier in
life and now regret not doing so. Numbers that probably run into the millions.
I have
chosen to review every course I play and as the strap line states, the reports will
concentrate on the people, the place and perhaps a little bit on the game! Please
note that any referral to hole yardage is from the yellow tees and not any of
those silly white things. At times the reports may be irreverent, but it’s all
done in the best possible taste, therefore people’s names have been changed to
ensure anonymity but also to prevent any future libel cases. Consider me the
Banksy of the golfing world but having less than an ounce of Banksy’s artistic
skill.
